About my art
Inspired by the raw beauty of vintage ephemera, personal resilience, and the unfiltered stories of women, my work weaves layered narratives from reclaimed newspapers and magazines into intimate portrait collages.
Layered Portrait Narratives
Born in Caracas in 1972 and now based in Antwerp, I discovered this technique after a life-altering battle with cancer—a moment that transformed art from passion into necessity, a defiant affirmation of life’s fragility and vitality amid chaos.
I find profound beauty in the broken: fragmented texts, faded images, and torn edges become the foundation for rebuilding portraits that reveal strength hidden within vulnerability. My practice centers on the female experience empowerment forged through pain, boundless creativity, and an unyielding, defiant spirit creating emotional dialogues that invite viewers to confront and connect with the hidden stories women carry.
My recent solo exhibition, Behind Frida (VCRB Gallery, Antwerp, October 2025), served as a deeply personal conversation with Frida Kahlo, exploring shared themes of suffering, transformation, and unbreakable vitality. Through this series, I invited audiences to witness and honor the unseen resilience of women across time.
